Apple introduced the new 11-inch MacBook Air in October, which replaced mechanical hard drive with solid state flash storage delivering instant-on responsiveness like an iPad and up to 5 hours of battery life with 30 days of standby time. The new MacBook Air measures an incredibly thin 0.11-inches at its thinnest point and 0.68-inches at its thickest, and weighs just 2.3 pounds. Two base configurations are available with 1.4GHz Core 2 Duo processer, 2GB RAM, NVIDIA 320M graphics and 64GB storage for $999, and the second model with 128GB storage is priced $1,199. Configure-to-order options include 1.6GHz processor and 4GB memory for additional $100 each.

With its thinner and lighter design than netbooks and about five times the performance many reviewers are calling the 11-inch MacBook Air the laptop of future. SlashGear’s Vincent Nguyen concluded his review by writing “Compared to the previous-generation MacBook Air, the new model is undoubtedly a bargain. Better looking, better performance and with longer battery life, Apple’s ultraportable has come into its own now that the technology has caught up with the Cupertino company’s ambitions. If you were tempted by the old model but put off by its limited performance and runtimes, this new version addresses that.”
