AT&T Says to Verizon: “There’s a misrepresentation for that”

Yesterday, we reported that Verizon’s ad campaign showcasing poor 3G coverage offered by AT&T has improved Verizon’s brand perception. And, AT&T is not happy about that. So the company has published information that shows Verizon isn’t telling the whole story. In the publication titled ‘There’s a misrepresentation for that’, AT&T says:

Verizon’s ads suggest that AT&T has no data coverage in much of the country by comparing only AT&T’s newer, faster 3.2 Mbit 3G network against its own 1.4 Mbit 3G EVDO while excluding any mention of AT&T’s slower but functional EDGE service, as well as its free WiFi access points.
A comparison of US population density explains why AT&T hasn’t focused its 3G deployment on Nevada and rural areas of the Mountain Time Zone.

In the publication, AT&T shows the complete data network map, which is almost similar to Verizon’s data coverage. Launch of iPhone on AT&T has highlighted its weak 3G network in big cities like New York and San Francisco. It is estimated that iPhone users use more than 50 percent of all the cellular data in US. And any network (Verizon or AT&T) that has iPhone will face same problems in highly populated areas like New York. The only thing AT&T can do is to add more towers for better coverage in those areas, which AT&T should have done by now.
