Dell Introduces Green Packaging

Dell becomes the first computer maker to use environment friendly bamboo packaging. The company has started using boxes made of more efficient material like bamboo that re-grows much faster than the tress used for cardboard and is more easily renewable.

According to Dell, as bamboo can take as much stress as steel, it provides more protection and replaces not just cardboard but the foam used to cushion against impact. Dell also adds that the outer box is made of used, recycled material, further reducing overall environmental footprint.
The Mini 10 and 10v will be the first systems to get the bamboo treatment. Dell will start shipping more systems in bamboo packaging during 2010.
