AMD today introduced the flagship ATI Radeon HD 5970 graphics card, which the company claims is the fastest card ever created. And they might be right with 5 TeraFLOPS of processing power offered by the new card. The card also offers massive overclocking potential with support for Direct X 11 and ATI Eyefinity technology.

The graphics core for HD 5970 is built on 40nm process technology harnessing up to 3,200 stream processors for maximum resolution of 7680 X 1600 across three displays at once. The Radeon HD 5970 comes with dual 5800 series graphics core running at 725MHz clock speed, 2GB of GDDR5 memory and support of ATI CrossFire technology. The card has two dual-link DVI ports and one DisplayPort.

Power consumption is relatively low when the card is idle, at 42W. However, HD 5970 is a beast when in full force and can consume up to 300W power. AMD ATI Radeon HD 5970 is available today for $599 and board manufacturers including ASK, Asus, Club 3D, Diamond, Gigabyte, High Tech, MSI, Sapphire, Tul/Power Color, Visiontek and XFX have start shipping the new card.
