Qualcomm’s CEO Paul Jacobs told Bloomberg “We continue to discuss it (with Apple), but haven’t made it yet. Hopefully, in the future, we will have the opportunity.” Paul was replying to a question related to chip supply for use in Apple iPhone.

He further added “We talk to everybody in the industry, we are very strong in the smartphone market.” Qualcomm is the world’s biggest maker of handset chips and it is the company behind the CDMA2000 technology used by Verizon and Sprint. Qualcomm is also one of the few companies working on chipset supporting both the HSPA and CDMA standard, which can be very useful if Apple plans to release iPhone on Verizon.

Neither Apple nor Qualcomm has said anything about what chips the two companies are talking about. But if Apple is planning to adopt Qualcomm chipsets, it will very likely be the one supporting both 3G HSPA and EVDO Rev. A standard.
