Reuters is reporting that hundreds of people lined up at Verizon Wireless stores to buy the BlackBerry Storm. About 200 people waited in line at Verizon’s flagship store in mid-town Manhattan and many of those were turned away after it ran out of the new phones less than an hour after opening at 8 AM. Verizon said it was getting reports of queues elsewhere in the country with more than 100 people at store in Bridgewater, New Jersey and another 100 at L Street in Washington, DC.
At our local Verizon store there were no lines and at 12 PM they still has Storm in stock. Though in most big cities small number of people queued up to get their hands on the new handset. San Francisco had a line of around 20 people at Verizon Store.
According to Reuters, the excitement over the launch still paled in comparison to iPhone debuts, when iPhone fans camped out days in advance to get the new device. Almost ever Apple store and AT&T store had hundreds of people lined up throughout the country for launch of both iPhone in 2007 and iPhone 3G in 2008.
