Acer is one of the biggest netbook makers and the company plans to continue its domination of the netbook market by introducing a 10-inch Aspire One model in February or March of 2009. Scott Lin, Acer Taiwan’s president said that the new 10-inch model would join the 8.9-inch netbooks currently sold with a module-based 3.5G bundle with Taiwan Mobile services.
Acer will also launch a 14.1-inch LED based notebook priced below NT$40,000 ($1,200) and is preparing 12.1-inch, 13.3-inch and 15.6-inch LED based notebooks for 2009 release. Lin believes that average selling price of the netbooks will continue to drop 10 percent annually and the high-end models will see the largest price drop.
Acer’s president Giafranco Lanci has already said that the company aims to capture 40 to 50 percent of netbook market in 2009. Addition of a 10-inch model will definitely help Acer.
