Penetration of DDR3 memory modules in laptop market has been relatively low. Nanya technologies wants to change that, and has debuted their new Elixir DDR3 1066 SODIMM memory to support Intel’s Centrino 2 Montevina mobile platform. The new memory modules will be available in 1GB and 2GB configurations. The Elixir DDR3 memory is aimed at notebook enthusiasts’ needing high performance and low power consumption. The module requires 1.5V power, which is 20 percent less than 1.8V required by DDR2 modules. The module uses Nanya’s 70nm DDR3 1Gbit components, which they developed in a joint venture with Qimonda AG. The Elixir DDR3 memory for notebook PCs utilizes WBGA packaging technology and an 8-bit pre-fetch design that supports module bandwidths up to 10.6GB/s. The higher bandwidth provided by new memory will improve notebook performance while keep the power requirement low. Nanya will start shipping the Elixir DD3 1066 SODIMM memory by end of this month.
