Apple today announced the Apple Ultracompact USB Power Adapter Exchange program. Apple has determined that under certain conditions then new ultracompact Apple USB power adapters metal prongs can break off and remain in a power outlet, creating risk of electric shock. The power adapters sold in US Japan Canada, Mexico and several Latin American countries may have this problem and should be exchanged for new, redesigned ultracompact adapter.
If your adapter matches the first adaptor in the image you will need to get it changed. If you have an adapter with a green dot on the bottom, you already have a new, redesigned adapter and do not need to participate in this exchange problem. Apple advises customers with old ultracompact adapter to stop using it immediately and till they exchange it for new redesigned model they should charge their iPhone 3G by connecting it to their computer with the USB cable.
Apple has provided two ways to exchange you current ultracompact Apple USB adapter for a new, redesigned adapter, by placing a replacement order online or exchanging your adapter at an Apple retail store starting on October 10th. You can get more information on Apple’s support website.
