Sharp today showed prototype of 3.5” touchscreen display with Multi-touch functionality (like the iPhone). The big news about this display is that it can also perform scanning functions; a future device could include a business card reader or automatically scan data codes found on packaging. Mass production of this 1mm thick display will start in spring 2008. Initially the display will be aimed at smartphone and digital camera market but in future screen up to 12” would be available for use in Notebook computer or UMPC.
