Last year, Intel announced that they would release quad-core CPUs for laptops in Q3 2008. It was believed that the TDP of the quad –core chips would be 45 watt and as a result they will only be used in desktop replacement notebooks. But according to the latest information the Core 2 Extreme QX9300 Quad-core chip will have a TDP of 35 watt only, putting it on par with the heat and power requirements of current dual-core chips used in laptops. This will effectively mean that the quad-core chip can be used in any notebook designed for Core 2 Duo processor without changing the dimensions and we will see the processor in high-end slim laptops. The chip is part of upcoming Centrino 2 platform and will have 12MB memory, 1.066MHz FSG and 2.53GHz processor speed. The quad core chips will have a premium and be priced at $1,038.
