Toshiba will release Super Charge ion Batteries (SCiB) in March of 2008, it will take just 5 minutes to recharge the battery to its 90% capacity and the battery will last 10 years or more (5000+ recharge). The SCiB batteries won’t short-circuit and explode like Li-ion batteries. The 2.4V version measures 62 x 95 x 13mm and weighs 150 grams while the bigger, 24V version measures 100 x 300 x 45mm and 2000 grams. Well these batteries won’t be used in laptop or MP3 players any time soon because of their size and weight. But I am waiting for the day when I can charge my laptop in 5 minutes. Initially the batteries will be used in hybrid cars and industrial devices.
