AMD Released Radeon 3870 X2, a card that pairs two Radeon 3870 GPUs together on a single PCB. The two GPU’s are interconnected via a bridge chip, which communicates with both cores by two PCIe 1.1 x16 links. The card has 1GB of GDDR3 RAM at 1.8GHz and the core is clocked at 825Mhz. The card is 10.5” long same as NVIDIA’s single core 8800 Ultra and will be priced around $450 to $500. The card can be used in CrossFireX technology making it possible to use with another card, which could either have one or two GPUs. So on paper the card looks great and AMD looks all set to take the high-end crown. But the problem with AMD is its drivers. Even though AMD claims performance gain in range of 80 to 110 percent the test conducted by Extreme Tech and Ars Technica show just around 50% increase in performance. Overall if you take everything into account like price and performance, NVIDIA’s GeForce 8800GTS is a better deal. You can read the review of Radeon HD 3870 X2 by clicking on the links below.
