NVIDIA Unveils APX 2500 Mobile Application Processor

NVIDIA introduced APX 2500 their first mobile application processor at Mobile World Congress. According to NVIDIA this new chip will let smartphones shoot, watch and stream video in 720p resolution, snap 12-megapixel pictures, and allow sophisticated 3-D mobile gaming. NVIDIA said that the processor could match the power of Geforce 6 series desktop GPU for mobile gaming. NVIDIA has designed the chipset mainly for Windows Mobile devices using Direct3D but it is also capable of running OpenGL ES 2.0 and other operating systems. NVIDIA has already started to ship samples to the interested companies and will start mass production in Q2 of 2008. The devices using the new chipset should come to the market in Q4 2008. Well NVIDIA be able to establish itself in mobile processor market is to be seen.
