China Mobile the largest wireless carrier in China announced that there were about 400,000 cracked iPhones using its network service at the end of 2007. That is 10% of all the iPhone sold till January 2008. According to Anty Zheng of In-Stat China, “the figure surprised us as it is fourfold of that we estimated before, In-Stat feels that the iPhone is leading the way to a new generation of smartphones that are very different from their older counterparts One important trend is that revolutionary UI and UE, enabled by touchscreens and 3D sensor technologies, will be widely used in the next generation of smartphones.” China and India are two of the largest developing mobile markets; just imagine how many unlocked iPhones are there in India. The important point here is more then 400,000 people are ready to take the risk of using an unlocked iPhone, which Apple won’t support, or repair. What will be the number if Apple starts to officially sell iPhone there?
