Intel to Debut Centrino 2 at 3.06Ghz in June

Intel has used the Centrino name as a brand that combines processor, motherboard and wireless chipset. Intel had introduced the Pentium M based Centrino platform in 2003 and didn’t changed it name with introduction of Core Duo processor, but now Intel will be introduce its upcoming Montevina platform as Centrino 2. The Montevina based processor will have clock speed ranging from 2.26GHz to 3.06GHz. The front side bus speed will also increase from today’s 800MHz to 1066MHz. The processor will be paired with Cantiga chipset that will come with WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n and will also support WiMax. The Centrino 2 chips will be priced from $200 to $850 in quantity of thousands.  Intel plans to release the Centrino 2 platform in June of this year. Intel is also planning to launch their first Quad-Core mobile processor by third quarter of 2008.
