Analysts: Software Could Trip up Nokia’s iPhone RivalSubmitted by lalit on April 11, 2008 - 1:22pm.
Nokia has been developing an iPhone competitor since the iPhone was first announced in January 2007 and Nokia showed a photo of the Phone code-named the “tube” at the Evans Data Develop Conference in Redwood City. According to Industry analysts, while the touchscreen is bound to look good, its operating system could disappoint. "The iPhone had a seismic impact on the industry," said Ben Wood, an analyst at U.K. telecoms consultancy CSS Insight. "From the day it was released, every other phone out there became disappointing," he said. "Unless Nokia's product is amazingly good, they'd better not come out with anything." When the iPhone was announced in January 2007 many in the blogosphere complained about its shortcomings like no physical Keypad, non-replaceable battery and no 3G support before even using it. But once it was released in June, it becomes the golden standard for mobile devices and the reason behind the success is its operating system and user interface. "Apple has set the bar so high that any competing device will almost inevitably fail at its first attempt," CSS Insight's Wood said. FeedBurner |
