Apple today announced that new movie releases from major film studios would be available on the iTunes for purchase on the same day as their DVD release. “We’re thrilled to bring iTunes Store customers new films for purchase day-and-date with the DVD release,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s vice president of iTunes. “We think movie fans will love being able to buy their favorites from major and independent studios.” The new releases will be priced at $14.99. I am bit confused here will the newly released movie be available for rent also on the same day as DVD release?  When I checked “American Gangster” was available for rent and purchase but “The Diving Bell and the Butterfly” was only available for purchase. So it looks like not every movie will be available for rent on the same day as DVD Release.
