There are around 250 million cellphone subscribers in India and every month more than 6 million new subscribers are added. Making, India the fastest growing cellphone markets. It is estimated that India will have more than 500 million cellphone users in 2010. Definitely, Apple wants to sell iPhone in India as soon as possible and with as many carriers as possible. Riyaz.net is reporting that iPhone rollout in India will be the largest, anywhere in the world. More than 250,000 Vodafone and Airtel retail outlets will sell iPhone, to cover all the metros and leading tier II towns. Compare that to 9000 stores selling iPhone in US, which is the biggest iPhone market till now. Both Airtel and Vodafone have announced earlier, that they have reached an agreement with Apple to launch iPhone in India. Airtel’s spokesperson said that they are working on the distribution strategy and cannot comment on release date. Vodafone hasn’t said anything except that they will be one of the iPhone carriers. If Apple captures only 10 percent of the raising cellphone market in India they will be selling 10 million phones every year in India alone. iPhone will be priced Rs. 23,000 and will be targeted at high-end mobile phone users.
