Samsung and LG have announced that they will team up to create and promote a new mobile digital TV standard for North American market. The joint venture between the two companies will co-develop a new solution that will require a minimal equipment investment from carriers and will use the existing digital broadcast TV infrastructure to bring live TV to mobile handset. Digital TV is broadcasted for free in the US, and thus will not offer any additional revenue for the operators. As a result mobile network operators might not be too motivated to support the new standard.
