Asus Adding Splashtop Support to More MotherboardsSubmitted by lalit on May 15, 2008 - 11:10am.
Last year, Asus launched its first motherboard with “Splashtop” support. Splashtop is an embedded Linux OS with Firefox and Skype. It gives you the ability to go online in just 15 seconds after you hit the power switch. Asus achieves this by running the Linux OS off a memory chip linked directly to the BIOS. The two problems with the P5E3 motherboard that Asus launched last year, were $350 price tag and it only worked with the super expensive DDR3 memory. Well, that all is going to change now, as this month Asus will start shipping P5Q series motherboard that will support the Splashtop feature. The motherboard won’t be as expensive as the P5E3 boards and it will use the DDR2 memory. Asus believes that it will ship more than one million P5Q motherboards every month. Next year Asus will start shipping laptops supporting the Splashtop technology. FeedBurner |
