AUO revealed a super slim LCD panel that is just 0.39” (9.98mm) thick and weigh 44% less than rivals. The 42” panel uses LED backlighting resulting in better power efficiency and brighter colors. The Panel has very uniform image reproduction and brightness of 450nits. AUO is also working on a high contrast ratio LCD panel with contrast ratio of more than 200,000:1. This 42” panel will use 16 x 8 blocks of LED backlights, each of which can be individually controlled. AUO has not released any information about release date or pricing for both the panels. AUO will showcase both the panels at Society for Information Display (SID) from May 20th to 22nd in Los Angeles.
