Steve Ballmer: Buy Vista and Downgrade/upgrade to XP for Free

It is no secret that many customers prefer XP to Vista and have asked Microsoft to continue selling Windows XP beyond its scheduled June 30 expiration. Replying to a question, at an event on Tuesday, about extending the retail sales of XP beyond June 30, Ballmer said Microsoft’s licensing policy allows for customer to install the previous generation of Windows should Vista not impress them. He further added, customers get both; I don’t know how you can do better than getting both. PC makers like Dell, already offer their business customers the option of pre-downgrading from Vista to XP. Now it looks like, Microsoft is doing all this just to boost their sales figures for Vista, as last year, less than 50% computers sold had Vista on them. By selling Vista licenses and let users downgrade to XP, Microsoft can write the sale off as Vista license sold.
