Philips has developed a 3D 52” LCD HDTV that doesn’t require glasses for 3D viewing. The LCD TV has 1920 x 1080 resolution, 2,000:1 contrast ratio and 8ms response time. The TV uses the WOWvx technology that is described by Philips as “2D-plus-depth”. The technology depends on footage being coded with depth information; the information is translated into nine different views and rendered in real-time by the display hardware. Philips expects the 52” display to be available in Q4 2008 and they haven’t announced any pricing information.
