Toshiba today announced the world’s first 160GB 1.8” hard drive that runs at 5400RPM. Last year both Samsung and Toshiba had announced 5400RPM hard drives with 120GB capacity. The new drive comes in two models: the 80GB single platter drive and the 160GB twin platter drive. The drives will be slightly heavier at 60 grams compared to 45 grams of the regular 4200RPM 1.8” drives. They will be thicker also at 8 mm compared to 5mm. The hard drive uses SATA for faster connection and will ship in august.
