Mozilla was trying to set a world record for maximum number of downloads in 24 hours for its new Firefox 3 browser. More than 8 million copies of Firefox 3 were downloaded in first 24 hours and Mozilla is waiting for the Guinness Book of World Records to review the result before announcing the world record. On Tuesday, the download rate reached a peak of 14,000 download per minute and the download rate is still strong at around 6,000 per minute. As of Wednesday evening more than 9.4 million copies of Firefox have been downloaded. You can check the download counter here. Another good news for Mozilla is that Firefox 3 usage is significant at more than 4 percent browser market share in just 24 hours, according to Net Applications. By all means Firefox 3 launch has been a huge success for Mozilla.
