SanDisk CEO said that Windows Vista is not optimized for solid state drive and that is delaying the company in releasing solid state drives. Speaking at second quarter earning conference, Eli Harari CEO and Chairman of the company said “as soon as you get into Vista applications in notebook and desktop, you start running into very demanding applications because Vista is not optimized for flash memory solid state disk.”
“The next generation controllers need to basically compensate for Vista shortfalls,” Harari said. He added “unfortunately, performance (SSDs) in the Vista environment falls short of what the market really needs and that is why we need to develop the next generation, which we’ll start sampling end of this year, early next year.”
According to Eli in the very low end market this is not the issue as existing controllers can get the job done for 8-, 16-, and 32-GB storage. The problem starts with multilevel cell flash drives requiring sophisticated controller for capacities of 128GB and above.
The list of Vista-bashers is getting longer and longer everyday.
