Few things that everyone should do before upgrading their OS are Back-up your data (if possible back up the whole hard drive), Repair disk permissions using Disk Utility, Verify disk and repair it if it needs to be repaired again using Disk Utility and its most important know what installation options do you want to use. There are three install options available, Upgrade, Archive and Install, and Erase and Install. Each option has its good and bad points. Submitted by lalit on October 26, 2007 - 9:59am.

Today Apple will be releasing their latest operating system Mac OS X Leopard. In past many reviewers have praised the usability, design and security offered by Mac OS X Tiger. Reviews by many know tech generalists have started to appear online and all the reviews have one thing in common, that is as always usability, design and security is top most in Mac OS X Leopard. The features most talked about in Leopard are Time Machine, Quick Look, back to my Mac, Spaces, Boot Camp, Video Chat, Parental controls, Stacks and remote access via iChat. The list of drawbacks is very short one compared to list of new or improved features. The drawback list includes see-through menus hard to read, network back-up can only be done to a hard disk connected to a Mac running Leopard and no way to remove a file from a Time Machine back-up. It looks like Apple has another Winner up its hands. You can read details reviews by clicking on the links below.

Samsung To Start Manufacturing 128GB NAND Flash by 2009

Submitted by lalit on October 23, 2007 - 6:48pm.

Samsung announced that it had produced the world’s first NAND flash memory based on a 30-nanometer manufacturing process. The use of new manufacturing technology known as self-aligned double patterning will allow production of high capacity 64 gigabit chips that can combine to produce a multi-level cell flash of up to 128GB. Samsung expects to start commercial production based on this technology by 2009. This new technology will also decrease production cost as the use of lithography speeds up manufacturing and reduces the effective cost for each complete chip. If you were waiting for 120Gb iPod Touch now you know the date that is 2009.

IBM and MediaTek To Develop Wireless High-Def Chipset

Submitted by lalit on October 22, 2007 - 3:25pm.

Almost everyone on the planet earth loves high-def and hates wires. So IBM and MediaTek have joined hands to develop ultra fast chipsets that can wirelessly transmit a full-length high-def movie to and from a computer, hand-held device, set top boxes or television. The chipset will be based on millimeter wave (mmWave) radio technology. This highest frequency portion of the radio spectrum will allow massive amounts of data to be sent quickly. The mmWave frequency band will boost at least 100 times higher data rates then any present wireless standard, resulting in transfer of 10Gb file in five seconds compared to around 10 minutes required by present Wi-Fi technology. IBM demonstrated a prototype chipset as small as dime to wirelessly transmit uncompressed HD video in February 2006.
