Kevin Rose had posted a video and talked on TWiT about upcoming iPods and iTunes. Today, he has posted more information about iTunes 8 that he got from a source. The post titled "What’s new in iTunes 8" has following information:
iTunes 8 includes Genius, which makes playlists from songs in your library that go great together. Genius also includes Genius sidebar, which recommends music from the iTunes Store that you don’t already have.
With iTunes 8, browse your artists an albums visually with new Grid view; download your favorite TV show in HD quality from iTunes Store; sync your media with iPod nano (4th generation), iPod classic (2nd generation) a iPod touch (2nd generation); and enjoy a stunning new music visualizer.
The above iTunes 8 information feels like the marketing material Apple normally creates for its new products. We will see iTunes 8 and the new iPods in their full glory on September 9th at Apple’s Let’s Rock event. We will be doing live coverage of the event at live.techztalk.com

At Citigroup’s 15th Annual Global Technology Conference, Apple chief financial officer, Peter Oppenheimer, fielded the future product questions in Apple Style, without giving any detail. Few points that he did talk about were related to MobileMe, iPhone expansion and Apple’s plan to offer new products a reasonable margin.
Oppenheimer said that the company’s management regrets not delaying the MobileMe launch. He also said that iPhone expansion in various markets is going according to Apple’s plan and Apple wants to introduce the iPhone into China as soon as possible.
The most important statement of the conference was “We plan to keep offering products at a reasonable margin, but not so high to benefit our competitors.” He further added that Apple is planning to introduce new products at reduced margins to keep it competitors under pressure. Apple presently has 80 percent market share for consumer notebooks priced above $1,000.
Peter didn’t say anything about new products that Apple is working on but promised, “we’re going to rock” at next week’s Apple event. The understatement of the night was “We expect to sell more iPhones in September quarter than in any prior quarter.” Many analysts have estimated that Apple will sell more that twice the number of iPhones in September quarter than in any previous quarter.
One statement that we liked most was when asked about iPhones lack of voice-activated dialing; he said, “That’s the beauty of our software model. We have a team of people who are working on new innovations; can make them come out for current and new customers. Wouldn’t rule anything out….” One of the two features we think iPhone should get as soon as possible is voice-activated control.

Kevin Rose had blogged last week that Apple will hold a special event on September 9th. As Kevin had posted, Apple has sent out invites to a Special Event “Let’s Rock” taking place on September 9th at 10 am in San Francisco. The invite features an iPod like album art screen along with date, time, city and five star rating. The design of the invite is a clear indication that the event will be an iPod only affair. Apple will hold the event at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco. As always, with all things Apple, we won’t exactly know what Apple has up its sleeve for the event, till Steve comes on stage.
In other news that is related to the upcoming Apple event, Music Week is reporting that Snow Patrol will become the first artists to deliver an interactive album application. The application that will be released along with the band’s new album “A Hundred Million Suns” will be downloadable and will enable fans to access a raft of extra content including artwork, behind-the-scenes images and lyrics via the device. It is very likely that Steve will showcase the new features at the Let’s Rock event.
Note: We will cover the event live on live.techztalk.com
